The Cambridge Society of London’s Boat Race Party was once again held from the vantage point of our first floor private room, the Wolsey Room, at the Duke’s Head in Putney. Forty of us gathered in the elegant room for more than four hours of merriment before, during and after the race. Flinging open the windows and cheering on our crew, our optimism was uncontrolled even until the end, when it was considered appropriate to have a compensatory drink in support of our gallant lads.

Thank you to David Peace (Chairman) for his rousing words at various points throughout the afternoon. Special thanks to those who generously bought Champagne before the race. This may have represented an extended celebration of last year’s result, optimism for the race ahead, or, perhaps most likely, simple celebration of the jolly occasion! We are especially grateful to the Secretary of the German Cambridge Society, Timo Graf, for joining us and for his gift of delicious chocolates from his hometown.

All in all, and despite the result – a mere technicality – it was a most enjoyable afternoon.

Organised by Alastair GourlayWe are again grateful to the Duke’s Head for their splendid private room and excellent service
