Our two tours, one in the evening and one in the afternoon, were led by Blue Guide and Society Member Caroline Piper who succeeded in educating and entrancing some 40 of our members. In just two hours each time Caroline took us from 4th Century BC Egypt to Assyria to Athens to Rome and finally to Saxon England, identifying, describing, contextualising and bringing to life magnificent artefacts from each period, the real jewels in the Museum’s collection, while answering all of our questions in the most expert way. This was a thoroughly enjoyable experience: members were fully engaged throughout and for many of us it was completely different from normal wanderings which so often involve just brochures, headphones and label-reading – this was far more personal and lively. We hope Caroline will do more for us in future.
