How can one describe a pretty perfect evening other than to say it was pretty perfect? For four hours the magnificent chandeliered Smoking Room of the Oxford and Cambridge Club in Pall Mall hosted 150 of our members and guests, each suitably dressed, labelled, more or less well-behaved, with a voucher for a free first drink, the Club’s ‘gourmet nibbles’ included, a cash bar, terrific socialising, conversations, networking, old-friend-meeting, new-friend-making and so on. The staff looked after us extremely well, including taking some dozens on much-appreciated tours round the Clubhouse. Interrupted just once during the evening by our Chairman giving his usual few minutes of ‘Thank you for your support … thank you to the Society Committee … give us your ideas and help for next year … Season’s Greetings’, the throng made the most of the occasion, with many making sure they were joyfully photographed in front of the Christmas tree. This was the penultimate Society event of the year but in many ways the highlight. Everyone seemed to enjoy it immensely, and we’re very grateful to the Club for its great service.
