Members of the Society tested their skills of deduction at a Treasure Hunt at the National Portrait Gallery. The quiz was set by our regular Blue Badge Tourist Guide Caroline Piper, who admits it might have been a little challenging! However, 2 groups of clever clogs (Mike Marriott and Nigel Parker and Sandy & Chrissy Rodger) got almost full marks! If you read these clues would you have gone and found the correct portraits to find the answers…?

1) I’m still standing, but how am I posed in my portrait? – you need to find the painting of Elton John
2) You will find me at the east end of the King’s Road; what have I drawn? – you need to find the painting of Hans Sloane and see what he has drawn and is holding in this painting
3) Who painted the writer of this quote: “For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbours and laugh at them in our turn?” – you need to find the portrait of Jane Austen and see who painted/drew her

…If so, consider trying the next treasure hunt – Caroline promises she will make it shorter (if not easier!)
