Over 40 CamSocLon members and guests joined us for what was a lovely, if not rather warm, evening at The Coningsby Gallery. The exhibition for the evening was Ben Jennings’ A Snowflake’s Progress. The multi-award-winning cartoonist and illustrator’s the first solo exhibition. This project is a contemporary adaptation of William Hogarth’s famous 18th-century work, A Rake’s Progress, and follows a recurring character over a series of 8 artworks that offer snapshots of British life set over the past 14 years of Tory rule. Additionally, there was a mix of other works that you may have already seen published in the media.
The gallery provides us a fantastic space for members to meet old friends and make new ones, with lively conversations filling the room. The wine flowed generously and the selection of sandwiches and other treats accompanied perfectly. Several members of the Cambridge Society of London Committee were in attendance and were thrilled to connect with so many new faces. The informal setting of the gallery allowed guests to comfortably chat and discuss the intriguing exhibition. The artwork provided a perfect backdrop for conversations, with many guests finding particular interest in the urban themes portrayed by Jennings – I think there were some purchases made too!
Our sincere thanks go to Andrew Coningsby for allowing us to use his wonderful gallery. We look forward to seeing you all at our next event soon.
