Around 40 CamSocLon members and guests joined us for a welcome return to the Coningsby Gallery in Fitzrovia.  The evening centred around Root of the Madder, the debut solo exhibition by British artist Simon Middleton.  Bringing together works on paper and oils on canvas developed over the past two years, the exhibition reflected a period in which his practice has grown noticeably in both scale and intensity.  We were very fortunate that Simon was able to join us.  He spoke briefly about the ideas and process behind his work, and stayed on to chat with us more informally – something many of our guests took full advantage of and which gave the evening an added depth.

The gallery proved an excellent setting for the occasion and provided the backdrop for a relaxed evening of eating, drinking and conversation.  The wine flowed generously, the food did not last long, and the room had that easy, sociable feel we always hope for.  Shaleem and Sarah from the committee were also there and particularly enjoyed meeting a number of new faces – always a good sign.

Our renewed thanks go to Andrew Coningsby for once again opening up his gallery to us.  We look forward to returning before too long.
