The Society, in collaboration with the University’s Development and Alumni Relations Office, hosted an exciting pre-departure event for 250 new students going up to Cambridge.  The lovely venue, Drake and Morgan at Kings Cross, provided the perfect backdrop for an evening of lively networking.  As students embarked on this thrilling new chapter at the University of Cambridge, the atmosphere seemed to be charged with excitement and anticipation.

Upon arrival, students were greeted by current students and recent graduates, guiding them downstairs to mingle, imbibe and enjoy some nibbles.  After a warm welcome from Chairman Richard Pearey and inspiring words of wisdom from the volunteers, the event seamlessly unfolded into over three hours of conversation.  Students swapped stories, contact details, and experiences, eagerly gathering advice from the real experts – current Cambridge students and recent graduates.

The evening was filled with shared aspirations, the calming of anxieties, and the excitement of celebrating this momentous achievement – securing a place at one of the world’s most prestigious universities.  As the event wrapped up around 10:30 pm, students left not only with their questions answered but also with new connections and a sense of confidence, some heading home and others continuing the night upsairs!

A heartfelt thanks goes to the student and alumni volunteers who made the evening such a success by providing valuable insights and guidance.  The Freshers’ Event has become a cherished tradition in the Society’s calendar, consistently well-attended and eagerly anticipated each year.
