Entering the Freemason’s Hall, the home of the Metropolitan Grand Lodge, the centre of London Freemasonry, forty Society members and guests left the hustle and noise of Covent Garden behind us for an evening exploring this magnificent building, learning about Freemasonry and Cambridge Society fellowship over wine and canapés. The evening started with a tour of the building by an expert in both the building and Freemasonry. Particularly fascinating was the Memorial Shrine, the massive Masonic bronze doors and the Grand Temple. We were then privileged to spend some time seated in the Grand Temple whilst Trevor, our expert guide, answered a wide range of questions about Freemasonry. The evening concluded with wine and canapés in the library where we continued informal discussions with Trevor and met new Cambridge Society friends. Special thanks to member David Semmens for introducing the idea and to David Swain, the Metropolitan Grand Secretary, for organising the evening.
