The Varsity cricket ended with a six, a smashed window and the match ball in our very own suite. Were we to blame? Find out below!

Over the first few hours of this most relaxed of Society events, we watched our side reach 177 all out. Our members used the extended luncheon interval to enjoy the bicentenary spirit, inspect the pitch and then retire to the Coronation Garden for our picnics.

As the Dark Blues came in to bat we took some quick wickets and our party felt rather confident of the outcome. However, steadily Oxford began to accumulate runs and they managed to reach to 173 for 9 with one over remaining. With just five runs required, they hit a six, claiming victory. Their final hit sailed over the pitch, over our heads, bounced in our box near the drinks missing everyone, then bounced up and crashed through the glass above our door. We have the ball, and it will be on display at future Cambridge Society of London Varsity Cricket events!

A thrilling finale and a marvelous day despite the result! The full scorecard is available here:
