These happy faces were enjoying a virtual tour around Christopher Wren’s City of London led by Blue Badge Tourist Guide Caroline Piper. This virtual tour, on Thursday 28th January, was part 1 of a 2 part programme of virtual tours themed around London’s architecture. Caroline’s favourite Wren church, visited on the tour, is without a doubt the beautiful St Stephen Walbrook (photographed) which was a challenging church to rebuild, especially as it was here that Wren built the first church dome in England. Many consider it his trial run for St Paul’s Cathedral, but in its own modest way it is even more beautiful!
The 2nd part of the architecture programme is a virtual tour of the Evolving City of London, looking at how London rebuilt itself after World War 2 and continuing up to the skyscrapers of the present day. Single tickets can still be bought for this virtual tour.
The next programme is themed around London’s theatre districts, starting with Bankside and Shakespeare’s London on 25th February and then Covent Garden on 18th March. Learn a little something, have fun and explore London from your sofa!
