The Society and the Development and Alumni Relations office held their first in person Freshers’ Event since 2019 on 12 September, hosting over 350 freshers. Having just left home and about embark on the biggest adventure at the University of Cambridge. With the help of current students and recent graduates, students arrived and were taken downstairs where they were free to mingle and collect a drink from the bar. After a wonderful welcome speech from Shaleem Jacob, committee member, and words of wisdom from the volunteers, two and a half hours were spent mingling and meeting others, swapping stories and contact details, sharing aspirations and anxieties, gleaning as much information as possible from the real experts (current students and recent graduates) and generally celebrating together the job of having secured places and the best university in the world. With the event coming to an end at 9:30pm, everyone left feeling happy and with their questions answered headed off home or down to the pub. Sincere thanks go to those student and alumni volunteers who helped to answer the questions from the new students. The Freshers’ Event is a firm fixture in the Society’s calendar, and is always well attended.
