Members of the Cambridge Society braved a chilly January evening to wander in the garden square neighbourhood of Bloomsbury. We were exploring the literary history of the area, both fact and fiction. We began at one great library, the British, and ended at another, that of the University of London. Characters we met along the way, besides the eponymous Bloomsbury Group, included Charles Dickens, Dorothy L Sayers, Jane Austen’s Emma and JM Barrie’s Peter Pan. Even those familiar with the area discovered something new. For some members this was their first walking tour with the Society, hopefully the first of many.
