Join us for our first Pub Night of 2026

Shaleem Jacob (Downing, 2012), one of our committee members, and Ben Widdicombe (St Edmund’s, 2013) will be hosting fellow Society members and friends from 6:30pm on Friday 10th April near Farringdon Station. Full details for the evening will be sent a couple of days before the event to those who book tickets. We have a small area reserved for us inside. Please note that while there is some reserved seating, most of the area will be standing space.

This event is an informal opportunity for alumni to catch up with each other, socialise, and network in a relaxed environment. Whether you’re looking to make new connections or simply catch up with old friends, we hope this will be the perfect event for you.

Booking is required, but don’t worry, the tickets are free – we just need to know how many people are likely to turn up so that we can ensure there is enough space for everyone – and there will be a cash bar as you would expect. If you book a space and can no longer attend, please cancel your booking so that others have a chance to attend, thank you.

About your hosts

Shaleem (Downing, 2012) completed his PhD in 2017 in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at Cambridge. During his time at Downing College, he was actively involved in sports, rowing for his college and playing university basketball. Shaleem now works in biotechnology, focusing on vaccine and viral vector purification technologies. He is the co-founder of VectorisBio, a company developing purification platforms for gene therapies and vaccines. Having served as a committee member of the Society for nearly eight years, he looks forward to welcoming everyone and hearing what fellow members have been up to.

Ben (St Edmund’s, 2013) completed his PhD in Criminology at the University of Cambridge, where his research examined decision-making by Crown Prosecutors and issues of public interest. During his time in Cambridge he was a member of St Edmund’s College and was also part of the Cambridge University fencing team. Ben supervises students at Trinity and Homerton Colleges on crime and criminology courses and is an assessor for the Institute. He remains closely connected to the Cambridge community and enjoys meeting fellow members and hearing what they have been up to.

So come along, grab a drink and unwind after a long day at work. We can’t wait to see you there!

Cambridge Society of London Transfer and Refund Policy

i) At least 14 calendar days before the event: We will provide full refunds (minus any booking/transaction fees, which are nonrefundable). Alternatively, if you have found a suitable replacement, we can change the name on the ticket on the understanding that you will reclaim the ticket price from them separately.

ii) Between 4 and 14 calendar days before the event: Our arrangements with our hosts are always finalised 4 calendar days before each event. With more than 4 calendar days’ notice we can still change the name to someone named by you on the understanding that you will reclaim the ticket price from them separately. Alternatively, we MIGHT be able to sell it to someone else; there is no guarantee of that but we will do our best and then refund you if successful.

iii) Less than 4 calendar days: We regret that we cannot offer refunds if given less than 4 calendar days’ notice.
