For the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race we had a prime area reserved with views directly across the Thames, right at the start of the race. We were located by the ‘Surrey station’ (the south side of the river, as Boat Race enthusiasts will know) on the patio of the Thai Square restaurant in Putney.
We enjoyed the pre-race build up over drinks and hot snacks, suitably immersed in the atmosphere. The excitement mounted towards 5pm when the crews set off on the 4 1/4 mile course. As the crews powered into the distance we turned to the large screen on the other side of the river to watch the remainder of the race.
While Cambridge was not successful this year we certainly succeeded in drowning our sorrows, before moving on to a superb restaurant nearby for dinner. Our chosen destination was a private dining room at Enoteca Turi, a fully justifiably Michelin-recommended restaurant, where we savoured a three-course meal.
