Well, we lost and we had a great day!  The dark blues ended their 50 overs at 227 for 9, while our lads were all out for 171 some time before their allotted span.  Disappointing yes, but did it affect our enjoyment?  Not at all.  Over 60 Cantabs and guests filled our two Society boxes in the Tavern Stand throughout the day, relishing the match and the camaraderie while imbibing liquids hard and soft, hot and cold, served by the staff and all included in the single ticket price.  It was village cricket: the weather stayed fine and, because the imminent World Cup had brought the date forward from mid/late June to late May, the day after a Bank Holiday, the Ground was unusually quiet, enabling us to wander round and use its facilities as if we were VIPs – which of course we were.  As normal the Coronation Garden provided the perfect setting for those who had brought picnics, and at the end we parted with memories of most pleasant day – as well as looking forward to revenge next year!
