“We are linked but not compromised. We are interested and associated but not absorbed.”

Those were Winston Churchill’s views on Britain’s relationship with Europe as we learnt at our sell-out event at the German Historical Institute. With a hall packed by our members in the unique Nash-designed building we listened intently to Professor Peter Alter (Cologne, Freiburg, Duisburg, Sussex, Oxford & Cambridge Universities) talking about and then debating with us the Great Man’s views, and Matters Arising Since. Extremely stimulating and with a wide mix of members from every background, the talk was combined with a special inter-war German photography exhibition and socialising over drinks and canapés. It all made for a first class evening. We’re most grateful to Peter for coming over from Cologne to talk to us, and to the Institute for its very generous support.
