Italy has long been famous for its delicious local food culture, based around meals for family and friends; but the quality of its wine has been variable. Perhaps unsurprisingly as they have 350 permitted grapes and regional wine laws that have been as much to do with politics as wine standards. Nowadays, however, Italian wine has never been better nor more in demand. At least this is what Richard hoped to prove to our 12 CamSocLon members this evening. Ranging in price from £30 to £83 per bottle, this selection was geared towards special occasions than everyday; but there are certainly more pocket friendly versions available. We will tasted eight wines, three white and five red.
